A name can surface in very different places around Bremerton, from a city contact card or college office listing to a property roll, old phone book, or burial register. The people directories serving Bremerton span current public contacts and deep local-history collections. Choosing the right kind reveals whether an entry identifies a public role, a taxpayer, a past resident, a credential holder, or someone buried in the city.

Choose Among Bremerton People Directories

Bremerton people directories do not form one master resident list. Each was built for a distinct purpose, so the most useful first stop depends on whether the known fact is a public office, campus role, parcel, recorded document, credential, street address, or year. Current directories tend to show public-facing contact facts. Historic sources preserve snapshots whose labels and coverage change from one volume or collection to the next.

Start with the narrowest source that fits the known fact. A city role belongs in the staff search; a campus department belongs at Olympic College; a street or parcel belongs in county property tools. For someone connected to an earlier Bremerton address, library directories and archives are usually more productive than a current contact list.

Inside Bremerton Government Directories

The City of Bremerton directory can be browsed by category or searched by first and last name. Categories reach the Clerk, Council, Mayor, Court, Police, Fire, parks and Ivy Green Cemetery, Community Development, Public Works, and other city functions. A department page may give the physical and mailing address, main phone and fax, plus individual rows for name, title, email, phone, and added phone numbers.

The official directory screen shows how Bremerton combines category browsing with person-name fields.

This structure helps when a department is known but the exact staff name is not. Some email cells can be blank or hidden, so the department main line remains the practical fallback.

An expanded entry may show surname-first name, telephone, work email, office, fax, title, and department. The college tool is a current campus contact source, not an alumni roll.

Bremerton School and Public Agency Directories

The Bremerton School District publishes school contact cards rather than a verified districtwide teacher-name search. Its directory covers 11 campuses and identifies the school, address, principal, office coordinator, phone, fax, general email, website, and boundary map. The district Human Resources page adds a named roster. Those sources route a call to the right campus or office, but they should not be described as a full staff or alumni directory.

Government listings beyond the city are less centralized. Washington's state contact interface accepts an employee's first or last name or an agency choice. Kitsap County publishes departmental rosters instead of one verified countywide employee portal. The County Clerk staff PDF, for example, groups names and duties under Internal Records, Jury, and Passport, with email and extensions. A department page or its main number is the sound fallback when a person is absent.

Bremerton Property Indexes That Act Like Directories

Kitsap County's property systems can work as owner directories, with an important limit. Parcel Details accepts parcel number, site address, or mailing address. GIS/Parcel Search also offers Taxpayer mode and can present results in a table. An entry can connect a taxpayer name with an account number, site and mail addresses, assessment and sales history, buildings, voting districts, and links to permit or map information.

The Assessor expressly identifies the taxpayer of record, not conclusive legal ownership. A mailing address may differ from the site's physical address, and neither proves that the named person lives there. The Auditor's recorded-document index is the better source for the deed trail. Its January 1987-present name search covers grantors, grantees, and other indexed parties alongside document type, recording date, parcel, legal description, and image links.

Older instruments require a Recording counter inquiry, copy request, or archive search. The access-law and copy process are covered in the Bremerton public records guide.

Bremerton License and Business Directories

Washington divides professional and business listings among several official directories. The Department of Revenue Business Lookup searches business, trade, owner, or officer names and can show a UBI, license, address, city, county, and endorsements. The Secretary of State filing search is strongest for a legal name or UBI, organization status, formation facts, principal or mailing address, and registered agent. A registered agent is a service role and does not by itself establish who runs a firm.

Credential searches are profession-specific. Department of Licensing results can show name, license number and type, location, issuance, status, and expiration. Department of Health offers provider credential and public discipline information, while Labor & Industries covers contractors, trades, specialties, registration, and violations. The Washington State Bar Association has its own lawyer directory. The Greater Kitsap Chamber directory lists member organizations, not every licensed Bremerton business.

Note: Compare the credential number, status, and date across official sources before treating two same-name entries as one person.

Read Bremerton Historical Directories by Era

Kitsap Regional Library holds the clearest verified run of historical Bremerton directories. R. L. Polk & Co. volumes span 1920 through 1990 under titles that change over time, sometimes adding Port Orchard or broader Kitsap County coverage. Entries may place a resident or business at an address and may include an occupation. The books are noncirculating and must be checked in the library because a serial date span does not promise that every annual volume survives.

1920Published span begins for the cataloged Polk Bremerton city-directory series.
1929 to 1934NARA separately confirms microfilmed Bremerton, Kitsap, Port Orchard, and Poulsbo volumes.
1980 forwardCole cross-reference directories offer an address or telephone route to an occupant.
1990End of the cataloged Polk publication span for this library record.

Polk works best when the surname, occupation, or address is known. Cole reverses the approach by starting with an address or telephone number. A Kitsap History Museum walking tour demonstrates the method with 1928 and 1930 phone books and a 1932-33 Polk volume, then checks tax and building records. That source chain can distinguish a downtown occupant from the owner of the building.

Bremerton Directory Collections at Sylvan Way

The Genealogy Center at Kitsap Regional Library's Sylvan Way branch brings the historic directory trail together. Its noncirculating holdings include family histories, census material, record extracts, books, periodicals, microfilm, and microfiche. Puget Sound Genealogical Society volunteers staff the center Monday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Sylvan Way is also a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, where some restricted images may be available on affiliate computers.

Ivy Green Adds a Bremerton Burial Directory

Ivy Green Cemetery's public “Find a Loved One” system is more than a pin on a map. Its structured data can include first, last, and full name; sex; birth, death, age, and burial dates; funeral home; monument type; veteran flag; narrative; and cemetery, section, block, lot, grave, or gravesite identifiers. The city-owned cemetery therefore supplies details that can separate two similar names and point toward an obituary or funeral record.

Completeness varies by entry, and a veteran flag is a lead rather than full service proof. For family history, a useful chain runs from death date and funeral home to an obituary, then back to the mapped plot and related memorial information. The public interface supports list and map views, which makes it one of the most locally specific people directories in Bremerton.

Extend Bremerton Directories Into the Archives

Washington Digital Archives carries name indexes beyond the city-directory era. Kitsap collections include 5,611 naturalization records across 1906-1910 and 1929-1955, school registers and censuses dated 1890-1939, territorial censuses, early county births and deaths preserved through microfilm, marriage images, and later land records. Coverage dates describe each online collection, not the full legal history of the underlying record type.

Kitsap History Museum adds more than 40,000 negatives, prints, and slides, as well as maps, yearbooks, books, and archival files. The Puget Sound Navy Museum holds photographs, shipyard and vessel material, uniforms, documents, and a research library with books, manuals, periodicals, and newsletters. Neither museum is a complete personnel directory. They are best used to connect a person with a school, shop, trade, vessel, building, or decade before confirming identity in civil records.

Some directory gaps are real. No unrestricted current residential white-pages list, comprehensive alumni roll, congregation roster, or citywide resident register was verified. Reference help, school or museum yearbooks, obituary services, and collection catalogs are the responsible alternatives. They preserve the distinction between a documented public directory and a private membership list that was never published for open searching.
